L'androsténone est un stéroïde que l'on trouve en grande quantité dans la salive des verrats non castrés, la sueur humaine et l'urine d'hommes et de femmes et très peu dans le cytoplasme du céleri. L'androstérone est l'ingrédient actif de Boarmate, un produit d'insémination artificielle que dupont vend aux éleveurs de porcs pour vérifier si les truies sont en chaleur. Il est à noter que le principal ingrédient de phéromone dans le parfum de phéromone vendu sur le marché est principalement de ce type.
